Report on the holding of the Peace Marathon 2007 Đurđica Šišul – Rajher - TO THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF THE ATHLETIC FEDERATION OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA SUBJECT: Report on the holding of the Peace Marathon 2007 19 May 2007 will be in many ways remembered in the annals of athletics of Bosnia and Herzegovina as the date when KUP-KARMEL, AT DINAMO-ZRINJEVAC and STUDIO NADA d.o.o. LJUBUŠKI in collaboration with the municipalities of Grude, Ljubuški and Čitluk for the first time organised a marathon race officially named “PEACE MARATHON” with the marathon route from Grude to Međugorje along with a citizen race whose route ran from Ljubuški to Međugorje. In compliance with the regulations and propositions for road competitions the organisers have appointed the Organisation Committee headed by
The appointments were made of the following authorised officials:
The course of the marathon race was measured in the presence of the authorised officials and the measurer Nikola Kordić. The organisers secured the accommodation for the participants of the competition, arranged a required number of referees necessary for the unobstructed proceeding of the competition, made provisions for the setting up of the public-address system, and notified the press, radio and TV stations of all the details related to the organisation and holding of the marathon. They also conducted the victory ceremony after the race was finished. The marathon race started in Grude at 09.00 am. During the race all the necessary provisions were made for a perfect safety of all the competitors and authorised officials along the route where all the traffic was held up, while the members of the Police Department of West Herzegovina Canton (ZH Županija) and Herzegovina- Neretva Canton (HN Županija) secured the race. Medical aid for the participants in the competition and authorised officials was administered by the Ambulance service of the municipalities of Grude, Ljubuški and Čitluk. Refreshment stops for the competitors were stationed at every 5 (five) kilometres along the route. Refreshments (water, sugar, etc.) were made easily available to the competitors and there were authorised staff in charge of the distributing the refreshments to the competitors. Furthermore, there were additional refreshment stops along the entire route set up by the members of the local community. During the progress of the race and along the entire marathon route the competitors were welcomed with an exceptional enthusiasm and good will, and even strewn with flower petals, by the ordinary people who otherwise are not regular sport enthusiasts. With its meaning and beauty this event exceeded the limits of sport and became a phenomenon symbolising relations between people. I cannot remember one single sport event that has been so vividly present and celebrated at every turn. Through an efficient organisation the athletic officials foremost strived to prove worthy of confidence they have been given and to show their capability to coordinate a competition of such largeness and significance. In the end we can only give a thousand THANKS to all the participants in the race, organisers and authorised officials for their faultless coordination of this event and to all those who for their part contributed to the true realisation of the sense of this race represented by its name.
